About the Role
Our client is seeking a Senior Angular Front-end Developer (Freelance) to drive the next evolution of their MARMOT Cockpit — a central 360° application for processing and tracking digital meter data. This is a strategic, high-impact freelance role based in Mechelen, Belgium, for an initial 12-month engagement. You’ll play a pivotal part in transforming a read-only cockpit into a dynamic operations environment, empowering users to actively shape business operations.

The MARMOT Cockpit is the operational heartbeat for business operations, integrating technical, market, and relational master data, measurement data, dashboards, and exception handling. As the application evolves, your expertise will ensure its front-end architecture is robust, scalable, and user-centric. Your work will directly impact operational efficiency, data integrity, and the ability for teams to intervene and innovate in real time.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a comprehensive audit of the current front-end: assess code quality, architecture, UX consistency, and reusability.
- Identify actionable improvement points and develop a strategic optimization plan for the UI.
- Drive the structural development and professionalization of the MARMOT Cockpit front-end, collaborating closely with the team on known enhancements.
- Establish and own a clear, manageable front-end release approach, including separate release branches and controlled merges.
- Support regular, independent front-end releases (weekly or bi-weekly), aligned with backend API versions and release rhythms.
- Monitor and ensure compatibility between front-end releases and existing APIs, proactively coordinating breaking changes with backend and platform teams.
- Champion predictable, stable releases that safeguard ongoing operational processes.
- Coach and mentor fellow developers, fostering a culture of ownership and continuous improvement.
Technical Skills & Experience
- Senior-level experience with Angular development (minimum 5 years).
- Proven expertise in similar front-end technologies and large-scale application architecture.
- Strong background in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and TypeScript.
- Hands-on experience with design systems and component libraries.
- Proficiency with GIT for version control and release management.
- Solid experience integrating with JSON & REST APIs.
- Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor developers.
- Experience with automated front-end testing (unit & E2E), including tools like Selenium.
- Familiarity with Figma or similar design tools.
- Experience drawing up and executing refactoring action plans.
- Knowledge of .NET-based applications is a plus.
- Experience within the Belgian energy sector is an advantage.
- Understanding of databases (SQL, PostgreSQL, etc.) is a bonus.
Language Proficiency
- Fluency in Dutch at European CEFR level C2 is required.
Other Requirements
- Higher education (Master’s or Bachelor’s degree) in a technical or engineering field, or equivalent experience in ICT technology.
- Demonstrable experience working in Agile/Scrum teams.
